Mehendi - July 27, 2004

These readers know how to read for the fun of it. Pictured are some of the 150 + participants of Schlow  Library's Young Adult Summer Reading Club "Get Lost ... at Your Library" In addition to winning really cool prizes for reading books during the summer, they were treated to a Mehendi workshop. Mehendi is the art of using henna for temporarily "tattooing". Mehendi artist Sampada, who learned the art as a girl, taught the workshop.

YA Summer Reading Club participants were treated to an evening of mehendi in the second floor meeting room.

The art of Mehendi has existed for centuries. Participants were able to design their "tattoos."

In India, Mehendi is used at celebrations like weddings and other special occasions.
