This month be part of the "Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child' statewide early literacy initiative promoting books and their importance to a child's success in learning to read. Click here for our suggested reading list. Be sure to share “Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse” by Lindsay Barrett George with the children in your life - and then visit Schlow Centre Region Library to find more mice stories and lots of special programs throughout April culminating with a visit to Schlow Centre Region Library on April 26 by Lindsay Barrett George, author of “Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse”. April Bookclub

There’s a Mouse for All Readers during the April Book Club. Sign up in the Children’s Department and see what we have for you. Keep track of your progress on our sticker charts and help us decorate our Allen Street window!  You may register between April 1 and 15. Read and keep track of your books until April 30. Be on the lookout for special events fostering early literacy, culminating with a visit on April 26 from Lindsay Barrett George, author of “Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse.”


Once Upon A Story Time
Weekly story programs for 2 to 7-year-olds and their families...Children’s Activity Room
Join us every Saturday in April at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. for exciting mouse-related stories! The Children’s Department staff will present a half-hour of stories that may include finger rhymes, flannel boards, and songs. 


Reader’s Theater Festival  -  Bringing Literature Alive!
J
oin Dr. Tony Lentz and the University Readers for unique programs based on the best of children’s literature. Each program features different and exciting stories and combines the best of storytelling and theater in the Library Community Room. Enjoy Learn how a little mouse can become "The Strongest One of All" on March 29 at 7 p.m. and again on April 1 at 3 p.m.


Celebrate National Library Week - April 2 - 8

Find A Mouse for All Readers at Schlow Library. Join us as we celebrate National Library Week with special activities. Join the April Book Club and discover something wonderful at the Library!

       
Spring Into Reading on Sunday, April 2 from 2-4:30 p.m.
Join Penn State’s Mortar Board, a national honor society for college seniors, for a fun filled event that will kick off Pennsylvania’s One Book, Every Young Child. Children will be able to participate in a variety of events including “Story Time” with Nittany Lion athletes, arts and crafts stations, a ballet performance and activities by Penn State’s Vole, sign language workshops with Penn State’s Sign Language Club, and much more. Enjoy special guests throughout the day in the Children’s Department.

Wednesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. Sleepy time stories! Come in your pajamas, bring your favorite stuffed animal and blanket, and snuggle up in the library as Anita lulls you to sleep with wonderful bedtime stories.
 

International Journeys
Travel the world with students from the Penn State Schreyer Honors College. On April 8 at 11 a.m. explore a country through stories, crafts, songs, and other exciting projects.

 

Drop-By Activities for No School Days
No School? No problem! Drop by Schlow Library’s Children’s Department for fun activities.
 

Friday, April 14 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. April showers bring may flowers Make suncatchers and hang a rainbow in your window and make a Mouse Pendant to wear home.                                      

Thursday, April 20 from noon-3 p.m. is Poetry Day @ Schlow Library. We’ll provide the poems to decorate and illustrate, but feel free to write your own. Of course, we’ll have lots of fun Mouse poems too. 

Friday, April 21 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Come and plant a “Spring Flower Garden” that will last all summer! Cut, fold and paste long-lasting flowers. Add a scampering Mouse in your garden too.
 

Musical Mice and More in the Community Room
On Saturday, April 15 enjoy an hour of singing, storytelling and movement for children of all ages. Hosted by Heidi Biever and her musical mice. Learn the story of "Geraldine the Music Mouse" at 11 a.m. in the Library’s Community Room.
 

Children’s Theater Performance By the Penn State Thespians
Join the Penn State Thespians as they continue the April Early Literacy Initiative and present their original spin on a beloved mouse tale! Thespians proudly present their Spring Children’s Show on April 20 at 7 P.M. and again April 22 at 11 a.m. in the Library Community Room.


Author Reading in the Community Room
Lindsay Barrett George, author of “Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse” visits Schlow Centre Region Library on Wednesday, April 26 for a special reading of her book at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. Arrive early!


Mouse Fun with the Happy Valley Alley Clowns

On Saturday, April 29 join the Happy Valley Alley Clowns as they celebrate mice and early literacy! Drop by the Children's Department between 11 a.m. and noon and receive free stickers and a balloon mouse!
