50th Birthday Kick-off
On February 1, the Friends of the Schlow Centre Region Library, in partnership with First Thursday, kicked-off a year long celebration of the Library's 50th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Friends of Schlow Library.

Bill Kelly, Head of Integrative Arts at Penn State.

Kelly presented a multi-media retrospective on 50’s pop culture featuring music and video.

Featured music and video included rock and roll legends Elvis, Fats Domino, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Giant Foods donated cake for the birthday kick-off.

Everybody loves cake!

Giant Foods representatives Scott Miller and Al Moore presented the Friends with a check for $1,000 to support the library.

Patrons were encouraged to dress as a character from a favorite book.Child's Library Assistant Wendy Huffard dressed as the Cat in the Hat.

Child's Library Technician Rebecca McTavish dressed as her favorite 50's book character, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.

The State College-based Arthur Goldstein Quartet performed for patrons in the Downsbrough Community Room.

Founded in 1980, the group plays the best of post-Charlie Parker jazz.

And also features original material written by members of the group.
