Join us for a Papel Picado (Mexican paper cutting) Workshop! Paper artist Harriet Rosenberg will demonstrate this Mexican folk art which is used all over Mexico for holidays and celebrations. The event is open to all ages. Come learn something new!

Three panelists, including Lorraine Lopez, an award winning Latina writer and professor of English at Vanderbilt University, will deliver opening remarks and then engage the audience in discussion.

Your kids can participate in Centre County Reads, 2013 community reads of Caramelo by Sandra Cisneros, too, with a story time and crafts! Activities will be themed around three selections: Family Pictures & In My Family by Carmon Lomas Garza and Hair by Sandra Cisneros. All of the selections will be read in English and Spanish. A Book Fair to benefit Centre County Reads will also be held the entire weekend.more info

As part of the 2012 Centre County Reads community read of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, the Center for American Literary Studies at Penn State sponsored a Grim Reaper Writing Contest. Because The Book Thief is narrated by Death, the contest asked for submissions to be written from the point of view of Death. Thank you to everyone who entered!
