Have you heard of our local First Thursdays? These monthly celebrations of the arts in downtown State College and on the Penn State campus follow a pattern adopted in a number of cities across America to devote one day a month to the arts. Our First Thursdays were started three years ago by the Friends of Schlow Library Board! Katie O'Toole, program chair of the Friends of Schlow Library, brought together representatives of downtown businesses and Penn State and communty arts groups to create First Thursday State College.
The Allegria Ensemble was formed in 2006 by violinist Debbie Trudeau with cellist Claudia Koide and Flutist Cathy Herrera. They have performed at Juniata College, Music at Penn's Woods, Bellefonte Historical Society and many more venues.
Allegria performs baroque selections as well as unusual and contemporary pieces. They have forged relationships with living composers who, in turn have created music specifically for them.
