Adult Summer Reading Program: Groundbreaking Reads
Join the Schlow Staff as they kick off the 2013 Summer Reading Program - Groundbreaking Reads! Click here to register and use the online system to log the books that you read. Stop by the referenceQuestions that you ask of library staff that require knowledge of the content of the collection or other resources such as those on the web. Sometimes you are referred to the answer, hence Reference. Reference can also refer to our reference materials that are often encyclopedic books that have many volumes and a concentrated number of facts and/or statistics. These materials usually have an overnight loan period so they are available in the library most of the time. desk for a registration prize while supplies last! The program starts on June 1st and ends on August 26th.
Weekly prize drawings include:
-- Gift certificates from local restaurants
-- Groundbreaking Reads t-shirts and other fun things
-- Two Kindle Fire HD 8.9 e-readers (the BIG one!)
-- And our Grand Prize is an iPad 4
There will be special events held in conjunction with the Summer Reading program:

May 30th: Anatolian Fusion -- Turkish Melodies
June 6th: Mary Morgan the Songs of Whales
June 13th: Huan Ju Yi Tanng performes Music and Dance of China
On Sunday, June 30th join us at the Sidney Friedman Park at 5pm to hear the Tussy Mountain Moonshiners and groundbreaking Guitarist Glenn Jones, the best guitarist you've never heard of! And if it rains the performance will move to the Schlow Community Room.
Bookfest is back this year. Catch the Bookfest festivities on Saturday, July 13th from 10am to 5pm at the library and various locations in State College. Visit www.bookfestpa.org for more information.
Geek Speak (where nerds go @ night.....) on Wednesday, August 21st at 7pm in the Community Room. Geek Speak is new and totally cool....fun and fascinating talks to expand your mind and keep you talking. Come to Schlow and see a 3-D printer in action, learn the bio-mechanics of belly dancing, watch a theremin demonstration and eat burritos!
Spoken Word Concert featuring PSU theatre professor Charles Dumas and Urban Fusion perform at the Sidney Friedman Park at 5:30pm on Monday, August 26th. And at this concert the GRAND PRIZE winners will be announced.
