Afternoon Book Discussion Group: The Story of Beautiful Girl
On September 25 at 2:30 p.m. in the Community Room, the Afternoon Group will discuss The Story of Beautiful Girl, a unique love story about an African American deaf man and a young white woman with a developmental disability and their lost child.
In September, the book groups will be discussing works by author Rachel Simon in coordination with Penn State's Office of Disability Services for Disability Awareness Month. Penn State will show the film version of Riding the Bus with My Sister, starring Andie MacDowell and Rosie O'Donnell, in the Foster Auditorium at Paterno Library on Tuesday, October 9 at 4:30 p.m.
On Thursday, October 11, at 7 p.m. Rachel Simon will appear at Penn State in the auditorium of the Lewis Katz Building. She will speak about growing up with her sister Beth and will change your perspective about people with intellectual disabilities. Admission is free and open to the public. Free parking for the event is available at the Lewis Katz building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
