Childcare practitioners will learn how the development of early literacy skills - through interactive experiences with books and stories - is critically important to a child's success in learning to read.During this workshop participants will:
  • Learn about songs, dances, & games appropriate for young children from around the world.
  • Learn about clothing in other countries.
  • Make musical rhythm instruments from around the world.
  • Make a multicultural flannel board. Investigate stories
  • reflecting folktales from European and Asian backgrounds.
  • Brainstorm a list of intergenerational activities.
  • Acquire a multicultural booklist of picture books useful in program planning.
This training will fulfill 2 hours of the Department of Public Welfare training requirements and meet the Core Body of Knowledge Level 2 Area K3 C2 32 and the Pennsylvania Early Learning Standard 9.1 Production and Performance, 2.9 Geometry, and 1.3 Reading Comprehension.
