If you have a favorite author or series but have read everything you can get your hands on by the author/in the series, we've got the resource for you! The Schlow Children's Library staff have carefully selected read-a-likes for all your favorite series, authors and genres. Check out this unique resource online here or in the library!

Below are summaries of a selection of the read-a-likes we have created, and to the left are attached files with the suggested read-a-likes for these topics/books/series (click "more info" to access these resources). For all the read-a-likes, come to the Children's Department and ask for the Read-a-Likes binder. We'd love for suggestions for any books we can add to our read-a-like lists!

The 39 Clues by multiple authors (Rick Riordan, Gordan Korman, Peter Lerangis, Jude Watson, Patrick Carman, Linda Sue Park, Margaret Peterson Haddix, Roland Smith, and David Baldacci):

If you like the action/mystery series about Amy and Dan Cahill, you'll find more books that are adventure stories, interactive fiction and/or mystery stories. Plus these read-a-likes will be plot-driven, fast-paced, suspenseful, and/or attention-grabbing.

 

Black Beauty by Anna Sewell

For horse lovers out there looking for similar stories check out the read-a-like list of stories told by animals that may be moving and/or sad.

 

Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

If you're a wimpy kid fan, you'll enjoy these these read-a-likes which share the diary style and humorous approach, plus are realistic fiction, character-drive, funny, sarcastic, attention-grabbing, conversational, and/or dialogue-rich.

 

Dork Diaries

For the female take on the Wimpy Kid books, check out the Dork Diaries and its read-a-likes. These are books with a diary style, that are realistic fiction, and are angst-filled, funny, dialogue-rich, and/or witty.

 

Fairy Stories

If you're a fan of fairies, this a great list of all the fantasy fiction fairy books you'll want to read.

The Fudge Series by Judy Blume

Can't get enough of Fudge? Check out these humorous and realistic stories, that are fast-paced, funny, and/or upbeat.

 

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

Wish there were more Harry Potter books? Now you can read similar fantasy fiction tales that are plot-driven and contain world-building. Plus are atmospheric and suspenseful.

 

The Junie B. Jones Series by Barbara Park

Love Junie B. Jones but read all of her adventures? We have a list of lots more books that are realistic fiction and character-driven, as well as being fast-paced, funny, attention-grabbing, and/or dialogue-rich.

 

The Lightning Thief Series by Rick Riordan

If you were thrilled by Percy Jackson's adventures, you'll enjoy this list of similar books. They are adventure stories, and fantasy fiction with first person narratives, that are fast-paced, funny, and/or attention-grabbing.

 

Princess Stories

The Rangers Apprentice Series by John Flanagan
