Dream Big! Read @ Schlow Library this summer and sign up for our ONLINE Summer Reading Program. Schlow has delicious, sporty, playful and interesting prizes for everyone just for reading books!

PICK UP YOUR COPY OF THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM BOOKLET IN THE CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT!

Registration begins May 15, 2012. You may begin logging in books June 1.

This summer we will be offering many exciting and innovative programs and reading incentives to promote a lifelong appreciation for the written word! Click on the left of the screen to check our Tremendous Tuesday craft schedule and our Everybody Storytime schedule.

For those wishing to keep track of their books on a paper log before entering them into the computer, there is a link to the left to print one out! Online log-in instructions are also provided. Check out the reading lists to complete the book category lists in the reading booklet for extra prizes (ages 3-12).

Registration begins May 15. Visit our website, schlowlibrary.org/children, to sign up, or for a bit of extra guidance use one of the computers in the Children's Department!

Adult Summer Reading: Between the Covers

Schlow's Adult Summer Reading program encourages you to get in bed with some good books this summer.

Registration will begin June 1st from Schlow's website. Log the books you read and you will be entered into weekly prize drawings.

The grand prize is a Kindle Fire eReader (subject to change if a cooler eReader is released!)

Other prizes include Schlow Library mugs, gift certificates from local restaurants, round trip tickets to a destination of your choice from Megabus and a night's stay plus breakfast at the Carnegie Inn!

We also have fun events planned all summer.

An outdoor concert in Sidney Friedman Park featuring the folk bands Lac La Belle and Pairdown. Thursday, June 14 at 7 p.m. All ages are welcome!

Global Connections' World Sounds at Noon program returns with international music performances, Thursdays at 12 p.m. beginning on May 31st.

In August, find out all about the latest exploration on the red planet at the Mars Rover Landing Party in the Downsbrough Community Room, August 15 at 6 p.m. Fascinating fun for the whole family!

The BookFestPA tent will once again appear in Schlow's parking lot on the Saturday of Arts Fest, July 14. You'll have the chance to meet, and get books signed, by local authors. Featured authors include:

Tawni O'Dell, author of the Oprah book club selection Back Roads.

Sara Shepard, author of the Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game series- the books that are the basis for the ABC Family TV shows.

Artie Bennett, children's book author of Poopendous and The Butt Book.

Lee Stout, Librarian Emeritus and former University Archivist at Penn State, author of A Matter of Simple Justice about the advancement of women in government during the Nixon administration.

Summer Reading at Schlow

Get ready to read! The Summer Reading Programs are beginning at Schlow Library. All of the programs have a night theme this year. The children's theme is "Dream Big, Read." You may now register for the children's program from Schlow's website. The young adult program's theme is "Own the Night" and the adult program is "Between the Covers." Registration for the adult and teen programs will begin June 1. Check our website for the summer reading link to sign up, log your books, and become eligible to win fantastic prizes. We'll also be having great programs all summer long.

2012 Own The Night @ Schlow Library!

The 2012 Tween/Teen Summer Reading program will open registration beginning on Friday June 1st!

This year's theme for you is Own The Night, so you may look forward to solving a murder mystery, learning about the mars landing, and a Rave party in August!

Prizes are randomly drawn on a weekly basis. To enter, record each book into the system--the more books you read, the greater your chances of winning a prize!

Summer Reading Happens Here: Your Sign Photos 2012

Since a great summer includes great books, all the libraries in Centre County are distributing these signs and your support of libraries and their impact on summer reading is much appreciated. Pick up a sign in the Children's department.

Please take a picture of your family standing with the yard sign and email a copy to us at yard-signs@schlowlibrary.org. Watch for your photo on this page. Names will not be posted. Do not include any identifying features such a house number or street signs. Your photo will show your friends and neighbors that you value the public library and help us make people aware of the many services found here.

State law requires that the signs are "not in the traffic line-of-sight" so please place them at least 10' away from a road, and do not block views of oncoming traffic at corners, etc.
