 <title>First Thursdays - where did they come from?</title>
 <link>http://www.schlowlibrary.org/content/adults/first-thursdays-where-did-they-come</link>
 <description> &lt;p&gt;
Have you heard of our local First Thursdays? These monthly celebrations of the arts in downtown State College and on the Penn State campus follow a pattern adopted in a number of cities across America to devote one day a month to the arts. Our First Thursdays were started three years ago by the Friends of Schlow Library Board!  Katie O&#039;Toole, program chair of the Friends of Schlow Library, brought together representatives of downtown businesses and Penn State and communty arts groups to create First Thursday State College. The Friends not only spearhead the overall First Thursday, they also financially support and oversee the First Thursday events at Schlow Library. Schlow First Thursday programs in 2009 include a variety of musical events - handbells, klezmer music, opera music, show tunes, and more. Put First Thursday on your calandar each month and join the fun!
