Carle, Eric. From Head to Toe. Harper Collins, 2007. Encourages children to exercise by following the movement of various animals.
Falwell, Cathryn. Scoot, Greenwillow Books, 2008. Six silent turtles sit still as stones on a log, as energetic movement by the other animals in the pond happens all around them.
Harter, Debbie. The Animal Boogie. Barefoot Books, 2008. In the jungle the animals' toes are twitchin', their bodies are wigglin', and their wings are flappin' - as they teach children how to do the Animal Boogie.
Hindley, Judy. Can You Move Like an Elephant? Baron's Educational Series. A brightly illustrated book that really gets children moving - and it all starts with "Can you do what an elephant does?"

Newcomb, Vita. Toddlerobics, Candlewick, 1966. A group of toddlers have fun as they stretch high, bend low, clap their hands, bump bottoms, and generally enjoy moving and grooving!
Walsh, Melanie. Do Donkeys Dance? Houghton Mifflin, 2002. Ask such questions as "Do hippos hop?" and "Can ladybugs stand on one leg?" and then find out which animals make each specific movement.

Arnold, Caroline. Penguin's World. Picture Window Books, 2006. Striking paper collages and clear text highlight this easy non-fiction book about the life of two Adelie penguin chicks. A map of Antarctica adds to the interest. Great for sharing with a group.
Barner, Bob. Penguins Penguins Everywhere. Chronicle Books, 2007. Rhyming text introduces facts about the wide variety of penguin species and what makes them unique.
Black, Sonia. Plenty of Penguins. Cartwheel, 2000. A basic introduction to penguin facts for preschoolers.
Fletcher, Neil. Penguin (See How They Grow). DK Preschool, 2007. Photographs trace the life of a penguin from egg to adult (this title is in the Traveling Trunk).
Gibbons, Gail. Penguins! Holiday House,1999. Chock full of facts about all species of penguins, and including color-coded maps.

Schrieber, Anne. Penguins! National Geographic Kids, 2009. If you're age 5, you're probably as tall as an Emperor penguin. Read and learn other fascinating facts about the 17 different species of penguins.
Webb, Sophie. My Season With Penguins: An Antarctic Journal. Houghton Mifflin, 2000. The notes from a painter spending two months in Antarctica studying penguins. Long for a storytime, but can be shared in bits.

Celebrate One Book for Every Young Child! April's activities at Schlow Library support Pennsylvania's Early Literacy Initiative featuring Stop Snoring, Bernard! by Zachariah OHora.

Meet the author on Wednesday, May 2 @ 6:30 PM at the APRIL BOOK CLUB PARTY!

This April Centre County children will all be reading the same book, Stop Snoring, Bernard! by Zachariah OHora. Be on the lookout for special events fostering early literacy!
PA's One Book, Every Young Child reading initiative is an award-winning statewide effort that encourages adults to share books and stories with children. Throughout the state, including here in Centre County, young children will have a chance to read, to learn from the book, and to enjoy conversation and the many other activities that spring from reading.
