NextReads has added two new lists that can be emailed directly to your inbox. They are the New York Times Fiction and Nonfiction lists. Once you receive the list, you can link directly to Schlow's catalog to see if we own the book and place a copy on reserveWhen the item you want is checked out to someone else you may request that it be held for you when it is returned. Requests can be made for any item in our catalog including new releases and items on order. You will receive notification via e-mail (or telephone) when your hold is available for pick up. Your request will be honored in the order it is received.. If there is a copy available, call the referenceQuestions that you ask of library staff that require knowledge of the content of the collection or other resources such as those on the web. Sometimes you are referred to the answer, hence Reference. Reference can also refer to our reference materials that are often encyclopedic books that have many volumes and a concentrated number of facts and/or statistics. New Power PA Library resources

Please click on the Power Library link (top of the database list), log on and then go again to the general Power Library link in the second list. Mango changes to Byki

We will be upgrading from Mango to Byki for learning languages online starting in January 2011. If you are currently taking a Mango course, please finish it, if possible, because they will no longer be available after December 31, 2010.

Byki is a new online learning system from Recorded Books based on the Transparent Language series. The number of languages available will increase from 8 to 80.

Here's a great way to add to your music collection - for free! Schlow now offers free MP3 music file downloads on our website through Freegal Music, an online databaseA subscription to a (password protected) website full of information. that provides access to songs from the Sony Music Entertainment catalog.

To view, browse, and download music from Freegal, go to the box near the top of Schlow's homepage that says "Our Online Resources 24/7" and select "Download music" from the drop down menu. All Schlow Centre Region Library cardholders are eligible for three free MP3 downloads per week. A Schlow library card number and PIN are all that are necessary to access and download songs. The music files are compatible with PCs, Macs, iPods, iPads and other MP3-compatible devices and do not expire. No special software is needed to use the service and there are no digital rights management restrictions.
