What happens when a girl's education is disrupted by war? Join us for chai and chat.Talat Azhar, a local resident originally from Pakistan, will talk about women's education in South Asia, as addressed in the popular book, Three Cups of Tea. Women are often denied access to basic education in many parts of the world. In Iran, Marji (Persepolis) has to leave her home to get an education. Gregg Mortensen, author of Three Cups of Tea, returns to Pakistan to set up a school for girls. Come, have a cup of chai and hear about the status of women's education in Pakistan.

Samira Khalili, a student from Iran, will also join us to give her perspective on women's education in Iran today.

This is the kick-off program for the 2009 Centre County Reads book, Persepolis.  Learn more about these events at www.centrecountyreads.org.
