Dog Days of Summer

People write a lot of books about dogs. I love to read dog mysteries. Susan Conant has written 18 mysteries with her beautiful malumutes, Rowdy and Kimi. Laurien Berenson features standard poodles. One of my favorites is Virginia Lanier who wrote 5 books featuring bloodhounds. Even though these are just standard mysteries, I usually learn a lot about that specific breed.

If I want to learn more, I can turn to nonfiction books about caring for dogs like Cesar Millan's Be a Pack Leader, Andi Brown's The Whole Pet Diet and David Alderton's Young at Heart.  Everyone wants to keep their dogs healthy so they live a long long time.

The relationships between people and their dogs often make compelling and often heartbreaking true stories as well. If you liked Marley and Me, you might also want to read Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote,  Puppy Chow is Better than Prozac by Bruce Goldstein or Good Dog, Stay by Anna Quindlen.
