Schlow Centre Region Library has many online resources that are particularly useful for teens.
Did you know you have access to free test prep materials, skill improvement courses, language courses, full color magazines, newspapers and databases? We want to make sure you know about all of these, but this month we are highlighting two, Learning Express Library and Transparent Language.
Here are some instructions for how you can use these two resources:
(open the PDF document link to the left to view more detailed instructions about using these resources)
From the www.schlowlibrary.org home page find the "Our Online Resources 24/7" drop down menu and select "Find many more online resources". Enter your library card number, located under the barcode on your card, and then your pin number. The screen that comes up lists our online resources and databases.
Choose Transparent Language to learn a new language or practice one you are working on. This service uses print, video, audio, and games so it is great no matter how you like to learn.
But don't forget to check out the other itemsBooks, audiovisual materials, periodicals. on the list!! NoveList gives you great book suggestions and you can use Biography ReferenceQuestions that you ask of library staff that require knowledge of the content of the collection or other resources such as those on the web. Sometimes you are referred to the answer, hence Reference. Reference can also refer to our reference materials that are often encyclopedic books that have many volumes and a concentrated number of facts and/or statistics. These materials usually have an overnight loan period so they are available in the library most of the time. Bank to learn about 470,000 different people. Use Zinio to read full color magazines on your tablets, computers, and other devices. They look just like print issues and they are free!
We also have a recommendation for a resource outside of Schlow. If you find you need more writing help, try Purdue's Online Writing Lab (OWL). It can help you improve your writing style, craft arguments, make citations, and more. You can get to it using the link to the left.
And remember that you can always ask us for help at Schlow's Reference Desk!
