The Birthday Mural - Dedicated June 7, 2007
Recent State College High School graduate Sarah Huffard (Class of 2007)
combined her
love
of the Library and art to create something with a lasting impact. (Click
here for the books featured in the Mural.)
In addition to shelving books and doing essential work to make the Library
accessible to patrons, Sarah has also done artwork for the Library’s popular
summer reading program.

The mural came to mind when Sarah was looking for a project to help her fulfill
several needs: a graduation project for school, community service hours to
graduate from State High, and a follow-up project for the PA Governor’s School
for the Arts. Luckily, the new Library had a children’s activity room with a
very large, white wall, which Sarah used as her canvas.
It took Sarah around 140 hours to complete the project. “I have worked on the
mural for 6 months, 2 or 3 days a week for 2 or 3 hours at a time. I took a
break in January to finish my college applications.”
Sarah’s favorite Schlow Library memory: “I remember going to the library ever
since I was little. I can still remember where the ‘Draw 50’ series were
located!”
