One thing I really enjoy about being a librarian is the chance to find out what others are reading and even get to talk to them about it. For those of you who are not lucky enough to be a librarian (or even work in a library), there are book clubs to provide that same sharing experience. At Schlow Library, we have recently added book discussion group kits with at least 6 copies of the same book and a loan period of 6 weeks. Some popular titles include The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger and Elbow Room by James Alan McPherson.

I also just had a recommendation for The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry. Apparently this book was self-published and taken to book groups until someone agreed to publish it.  Now it is a hot title.

Then, while I was reading about book groups, I found a website, www.readinggroupchoices.com [1]. I searched for humorous books and found, No! I Don't Want to Join a Book Club, by Virginia Ironside,  a story about a 50-something woman and what she wants to do with her retirement. Another humorous book is An Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett, a fictional story about the Queen of England becoming a fanatic reader. This website has books divided by catagory and subject and also provides discussion questions. It is an excellent resource if you have to plan your next meeting!
