If you read the Book Beat review by Kevin Hagopian on Sunday in the Centre Daily Times, you learned about Walter Mirisch, who was very instrumental in getting the film industry started. The book sounds interesting, but I was also motivated to watch some of the movies. All of the libraries in Centre County have videos and DVDs. Some of them are free, some have a nominal fee. So, check out some of these movies to learn more about the earlier days of film: Some Like it Hot, West Side Story, The Great Escape, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Pink Panther, and Fiddler on the Roof. If you watch any of them, you'll see what an impact Walter Mirisch had on the film industry.
What did you think about the review and have you read the book, "I thought I was making movies, not history?" If you are reading Book Beat, you are a Centre County reader. Let us know what you think.
If you have been reading "Janko and the Giant" on Saturdays in the Centre Daily Times, this Saturday is your last chance. The story will come to its conclusion and Janko will either survive Glass Mountain or not. (I think these things usually turn out okay). If you are a mom reading this to her children, what did you think about the magic backpack that just provided whatever food Janko wished for? I would like that every day at dinner time.
