Have you ever tracked a book into the wild? Centre County Reads has released some of our past titles, including A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson and When the Emperor was Divine by Julie Otsuka, around the county and we want to know if you see them, pick them up or read them. They have a label on the front with an ID number and our website, www.centrecountyreads.org [1]. Just go there, type in the number and tell us where you found the book. It is anonymous!
If you prefer, you can just post the information here or email me directly (centrecountyreads@gmail.com [2]). PLUS - let me know if you want to have some books released in your area. I read at lunch all the time, so I keep taking books to the Corner Room and Roly Poly. Where do you read and where should I put the books?
We are now planning our 2009 book program which will start in January. We will announce our next book in December. I'll remind you again later.
I had a busy weekend, but was able to finish a couple of good books. One was Gentlemen & Players by Joanne Harris. This is a complex suspense novel about a British boys' school. The narrative moves back and forth between the two adversarial characters and this helps to heighten the suspense as they get closer and closer to each other. I was interested to discover that the author, Joanne Harris, also wrote Chocolat, which was made into a movie. The two books are very different, but both are interesting studies of human behavior. I am planning to try some of her other books starting with Five Quarters of the Orange.
