May is Older Adults Month and Schlow offers many wonderful resources for Older Adults. In addition to our wonderful collection of books, we offer many of these titles in Large Print, on cassette, on CD and in downloadable formats. If you are homebound, we have Library by Mail, where you receive items [2]Books, audiovisual materials, periodicals. in the mail and return them in the same package - it is very easy and free. We also offer reference [3]Questions that you ask of library staff that require knowledge of the content of the collection or other resources such as those on the web. Sometimes you are referred to the answer, hence Reference. Reference can also refer to our reference materials that are often encyclopedic books that have many volumes and a concentrated number of facts and/or statistics. These materials usually have an overnight loan period so they are available in the library most of the time. by phone (235-7816) or email (refdesk@schlowlibrary.org [4]). You can also access reference help through our website at the "Chat with a librarian" link. This is often not a Schlow librarian, but everyone does their best to answer whatever question you may have. We can look up a phone number or address for you or help you find information online.
Schlow has magazines, newspapers and free programs. This month, we have our First Thursday (today - May 7th) with the Handbell Choir performance. There are several book groups this month, plus our knitting group and Chess and Go clubs. There are always chess sets and Go sets at the reference desk to play in the library. We always have an Older Adult information rack. Right now, there is information you can use on Medicare and assistive technology.
On May 21, we will be out at the Nittany Mall to show you our new combined online catalog and answer any library questions. Be sure to look for us there at the Health & Lifestyle Expo.
