Born and raised in western Pennsylvania, John Sharkey traveled a great deal with his family. He believes that this travel was "Instrumental in developing [his] desire to record and interpret what [he] saw and experienced" and he "Came to realize that we can all look at the same scene but see entirely different things..." Mr. Sharkey works with traditional film and prints on fiber based papers "For a superior and permanent image."
Mr. Sharkey's work reflects the influences of Ansel Adams, Edward Steichen, Walker Evans and Edward Weston, masters of 20th century photography. His work will be on exhibit in the gallery throughout the month of November.
