Look closely at the intriguing pieces by local artist Ruth Kempner in this month's exhibit. Infused with her sense of whimsy and intense thoughtfulness, these new collages and watercolors tantalize the imagination.
Discovery is the essence of Kempner's art. She is an adventurer - an explorer always willing to take risks. Each work opens a new frontier for experimentation with different surfaces, textures, and mediums, including transparent and opaque watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and casein.
A New York native, Kempner holds a fine arts degree from Cooper Union and has also studied at NYU, Yale, PSU, and the Rhode Island School of Design. After working as a textile designer in NYC, she moved to Clearfield and established a studio, moving on to State College in 1977.
Her work has won awards in juried shows throughout Pennsylvania, including the prestigious CPFA "Images." She has also served as a juror for a number of major Central Pennsylvania shows.
An art teacher of water-media techniques for over 30 years, Kempner relishes the wide-ranging creative interactions she experiences with her students.
The exhibition is open October 1st to the 31st.
