Chat with us through Ask Schlow (part of Ask Here PA)

Schlow librarians are now online when we are open to answer your chat questions. Click on the Ask a Librarian link on the left side of our web page or click here. All questions will go first to one of the Schlow staff. If we are busy or already helping someone, a librarian from another Pennsylvania library may pick up. They can often answer your question - if not, they will send it back to us.To ensure that we can get back to you with an answer, please leave your emaill address whenever possible. We eventually see all of the questions and can respond later if we have contact information.

As always, you can call the referenceQuestions that you ask of library staff that require knowledge of the content of the collection or other resources such as those on the web. Sometimes you are referred to the answer, hence Reference. Reference can also refer to our reference materials that are often encyclopedic books that have many volumes and a concentrated number of facts and/or statistics. These materials usually have an overnight loan period so they are available in the library most of the time. desk at 235-7816 or email us at refdesk@schlowlibrary.org. We love to answer your question!

Fiber Art by Sandi Garris

A scuba diver and world traveler, fiber artist Sandi Garris imbues her colorful work with her passion for exotic cultures and natural patterns. Inspired by rich coral reefs and lush rain forests, Garris mixes red, yellow, and blue MX dyes to create hundreds of hues and shades to color the fabrics used in her organically graphic artwork. Composing her designs for weeks or months before fabric is ever touched, she waits until she envisions the full pattern, color, and balance of the completed work before cutting and sewing the thousands of pieces that comprise each image.

A Penn State University graduate, she has been a full-time fiber artist since 1987. Her art quilts have appeared in a wide range of publications such as Art Quilt MAgazine, Quilter's Newsletter Magazine, Celebrate Pennsylvania, and State College Magazine. She has won numerous awards for her work at art fairs around the country.

Garris' work will be on display throughout the month of December. Don't miss this one!
