Food Bank Donations

Returning your materials this week? Going to get more? Consider bringing a donation for the State College Area Food Bank with you. There will be a box in the outer lobby from December 19th to the 23rd. Click on the story link for a list of what they need. Thank you for your generosity!

The food bank currently needs:

Grocery store gift cards
Evaporated milk
Beef stew, chili, etc.
Tomato products (sauce, paste, diced, etc.)
Bisquick, pancake and muffin mixes
Canned meat (Spam, chicken, ham)
ItemsBooks, audiovisual materials, periodicals. for our Christmas bags: boxed mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, gravy or gravy mis, pie crust mixes.

The food bank always needs:

Granulated Sugar
Mayonnaise, Miracle Whip Salad Dressing, and salad dressing
Cooking oil
Bars of soap
Personal hygiene items (toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc.)
Baby items (baby food, diapers, formula, etc.)

Budget Cuts? Seriously? How YOU can help!

Unless you've been living in a cloud of unreality, you know that everyone is hurting financially right now. Schlow Library is no exception. We have broadened our fundraising horizon this year, asking everyone to donate even a little bit to help make up for the budget shortfall we experienced due to last year's budget cuts. Unfortunately, this year's budget is being cut again! Some legislators are telling the public that they were "able to flat fund library access at last year's fiscal level" this does not mean that libraries are being flat funded, it refers to online programs that allow access to online databases and resources. Last year, those databases were cut to a level that barely kept them afloat and this year they'll remain at those levels. While we appreciate that those databases weren't eliminated altogether and are grateful for those efforts, we still have a budget deficit to make up for general operations through fundraising efforts. You can donate by returning the flier you may have received in the mail. If you did not receive one, you can download the .pdf file located here. Or ask for one the next time you stop by the 'brary! We're happy to share with you. We live in such a generous community there is no doubt we will be able to weather this storm. Thank you from all of us here at Schlow!

Donate Items to the Library?

We will accept materials that are in excellent condition.

Books—published within the past 10 years

Magazines—published within the last year

Audiobooks (CD and cassette) —published within the past 3 years

Videos/DVDs—published within the last year

Music CDs—no limit—must be in good condition (no scratching/skipping)

Encyclopedias—published within the past 5 years

Text books—published within the past 5 years

Additional materials will be judged on a case-by-case basis.

All donated itemsBooks, audiovisual materials, periodicals. will become property of Schlow Library. Donated items may be added to the collection, sold to benefit the library, or given to another library or organization. You will not be notified of the final decision unless you specifically requestWhen the item you want is checked out to someone else you may request that it be held for you when it is returned. Requests can be made for any item in our catalog including new releases and items on order. You will receive notification via e-mail (or telephone) when your hold is available for pick up. Your request will be honored in the order it is received. this when you donate the items.

If you have more that two boxes of books, please take them to the AAUW bookdrop at 2100 East College Ave. We receive designated funds from their book sale and they are better equipped to deal with large numbers of books.
