The Internet for Kids

The Internet is an exciting entry to the universe of knowledge and people. It lets you chat with someone on the other side of the globe or view the globe from space. As the Internet is not regulated, people are free to put anything on it without identifying themselves, which leaves users open to some risks. Some material may be inappropriate and some information may be incorrect.

For more information, Schlow Library's Internet Policy, and Internet guidelines for kids click "more info."

To ensure their children’s safety, parents must monitor whether their kids actually log on to the Internet in the Library and what they do once they are online as described in our Internet Policy (link below). Please read the Policy and review it with your child to make sure that you both are familiar with our rules.

Please read and understand Schlow Library's Internet Policy

Suggested Internet Guidelines for Kids

Always ask your parents' permission before using your full name, address, telephone number or school name anywhere online.

Always tell your parents or other trusted adults if you see something online that is scary or that you don't understand.

Don't respond to messages that make you feel uncomfortable or uneasy.

Never give out a credit card number or password online.

Never arrange a face-to-face meeting with someone you know only through the Internet unless you discuss it with your parents and an adult goes with you.

Remember that not everything you see on the Internet is true.

Summer Reading for All Ages (2010)

Select an age group to begin!

4 programs, now online

We have four different summer reading programs this year--one for every age group.

Register, record AND write reviews of what you read, right from your computer. If you do not have access to a computer at home, or are unsure how to proceed, the library has many computers, staff, and volunteers to assist--stop in and ask for a hand!

Each program has its own prizes to claim--click the "related content" links to the left to learn more about each.

Along with the reading and prizes, there are many associated events of all kind going on all summer. Take a look at our calendar, or check out the tabs at the top of the page for more information.

Parents: You must monitor whether your kids actually log on to the Internet in the Library and what they do once they are online as described in our Internet Policy.

As the Internet is not regulated, people are free to put anything on it without identifying themselves, which leaves users open to some risks. Some material may be inappropriate and some information may be incorrect.
