More to Explore: Schlow Re-Opens for Limited Browsing

Beginning June 3, Schlow Library offered patrons the opportunity to choose from in-person browsing or pick-up service only, as part of its ongoing phased approach to safely re-opening the building in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Schlow’s first floor Children’s Department is now accessible for limited browsing as are the Adult/Young Adult collection areas on the library’s second floor. Masks are required.
“We’re excited to get to this next stage of service for our patrons and the community, after a successful launch of lobby pick-ups in May,” said Library Director Lisa Rives Collens. “Whether you’re comfortable coming inside briefly to browse, make your picks, and checkout or want to continue to reserve books and materials online then pick-up, we’re ready and here to help!”
Schlow’s browsing phase coincides with the start of this year’s Summer Reading Program: Tails & Tales, which features fun for all (babies through adults). SRP and all other library programming remains virtual through the summer months.

What to Expect When You Visit

  • A Big Schlow Welcome!
We’re eager to see you back in the library. The Schlow team has been carefully planning for your return, installing safety equipment, continuing cleaning protocols, and preparing to help you navigate the shelves and the environment.
  • Time Enough to Take Your Turn
Because building capacity remains limited, we’ll ask you to please make your choices and move through the library to check out so others can enjoy similar access.
  • Public Computer Availability
Access to Schlow’s public computers for library cardholders has shifted to a walk-in service only. Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis for a 45-minute session during the library’s open hours. No appointments will be taken.
  • Parking and Event Space Reservations Return
Public parking onsite in the Schlow Library parking lot returned June 3 with free validation during normal business hours. We also again began accepting applications to reserve the library’s event space at the corner of Beaver Avenue and Allen Street.

You’ll find more information on our Using Schlow web page, including FAQs as well as options for pick-up and virtual services.
Thanks, again, for your support, patience, input, and trust as we keep moving forward and getting your library back to the Schlow You Know!
