Reflections on Americans and the Holocaust

9:00am to 5:00pm

A gallery exhibition

The Betsy Rodgers Allen Gallery reopens with a community exhibition of local poetry and art in response to the "Americans and the Holocaust" traveling exhibition at University Libraries, Penn State on loan there January 29 thru March 10, 2022.

According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, "Holocaust history raises important questions about what Europeans could have done to stop the rise of Nazism in Germany and its assault on Europe’s Jews. Questions also must be asked of the international community, including the United States. What did the US government and the American people know about the threats posed by Nazi Germany? What responses were possible? And when? This exhibition examines the motives, pressures, and fears that shaped Americans’ responses to Nazism, war, and genocide." Developed in partnership with the Art Alliance of Central PA, local poets and artists reflected on these questions and created the works on display.

A poetry reading is scheduled for January 11 at 5:30pm in the Downsbrough Community Room. Advanced registration requested.

Like the library, the gallery is free and open to the public.
