Images 2023 Exhibition

The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is pleased to spotlight the work of talented Pennsylvania 2D artists through our prestigious Images 2023 Juried Exhibition.

Images 2023 is a 2-D gallery exhibition featuring drawings, paintings, pastels, mixed media, photography, hand-pulled prints, watercolors, fiber, paper, and digital art from artists aged 16 and older whose primary residence is in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

View the live exhibition at Schlow Centre Region Library from July 1 – August 1, 2023.  You can also enjoy the online exhibition on the Festival of the Arts' website.  In person visitors should be aware that some portions of the show may be periodically unavailable during Library programming.

Many of the artworks in the Images 2023 Exhibition are for sale. Purchasing art will always be the best way to support and encourage artists. A work of art is something that you can enjoy for years to come.  If you would like to purchase a piece in the show, please contact the Festival office at (814) 237-3682 or office@arts-festival.com, and they will be glad to help you.

A total of $1,800 in cash prizes will be awarded as follows: one Best of Show Award ($500), Best Drawing ($200), Best Pastel ($200), Best Photograph ($200), and 4 merit awards ($150 each). There is also an award for Best Student Submission ($100).  Winners will be announced at an Awards Reception during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts on July 13, 2023 sponsored by CBICC.

The Images 2023 juried fine art exhibition is made possible in part by sponsorships from the State College Framing Company & Gallery, CBICC, Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County, Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society, State College Photo Club, Joyce Robinson and Norman Spivey, and the Schlow Library Foundation. Thank you to our sponsors for their generous support!

Exhibition Juror

James Farrah is the exhibition’s juror for selection and prizes.

Artist James Farrah holds signature memberships in the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, the National Acrylic Painters Association and is a member of the Bellefonte Art Museum.  He works in watercolor, oils, and acrylics.  His works are held in the permanent collections of the Tucson Art Museum, the National Sports Museum, and the New Mexico Folk Art Museum, and more.

Although his work covers a wide range of subjects, James’ current focus is using children’s toys and artist’s manikins for subject material. In addition to being colorful and fun, they are wonderful tools for storytelling. He hopes the paintings evoke a sense of innocence and nostalgia.

James graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a BFA in painting, photography, and graphic design.  He was a member of the 2022 jury team for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts’ Sidewalk Sale & Exhibition.  James currently teaches from his Bellefonte home.
