The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is one of the highlights each summer in downtown State College, and Schlow Centre Region Library will once again host several big events in conjunction with the festival!
It all begins Wednesday, July 10, during Children’s Day. Schlow will have a big tent set up in its parking lot and our friends from Discovery Space will present “All About Bubbles!” from 10am to noon. Kids will have a chance to experiment with different kinds of bubbles. At 1:30pm, local favorite Two of a Kind will perform an outdoor concert.
On Thursday, July 11, an award reception for Images 2019, the festival’s juried art exhibition, will be held at 6:30pm in the Downsbrough Community Room. Award winners will be announced during the reception. The exhibition hangs in the Betsy Rodgers Allen Gallery and Downsbrough Community Room throughout July.
BookFest PA: Comics to Cozies returns Saturday, July 13, from 10am to 4pm in the Schlow Parking Lot. BookFest has something for casual readers as well as diehard fans of genre fiction, mystery, romance, science fiction, fantasy, comics, graphic novels, children’s fiction, and more. Meet more than 20 authors and artists who work for large publishing houses, as well as independents who design their own path. Comics, webcomics, novels, and graphic novels are all represented. Caricature artist Seth Young will be on hand, as well as representatives from Penn State Press and Isle of Comics. New this year, our friends at Setsucon are sponsoring a costume contest from 1 to 3pm.
Also on July 13, the Pennsylvania Center for the Book holds the Lee Bennett Hopkins Poetry Award ceremony in the Downsbrough Community Room at 11am. This year’s winner is Andrea Davis Pinkney for her work Martin Rising: Requiem for a King.
The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is July 10-14. Festival buttons can be purchased at Schlow Library for $10.
